~~~~~~~~
This KBS historical
drama Tale of the Bookworm (2014) starts off
like a comedy, but quickly becomes more serious, even
becoming more of a story between life and death for
its characters, than a story about a clumsy fellow who
loves to read books. It becomes more of an action
thriller as it progresses, a story surrounding a
famous and revolutionary novel written in Hangul by
Heo Gyun during the Joseon era, called Hong Gil
Dong. Heo Gyun was the younger brother of the
famous Korean poetess Ho Nansorhon who committed
suicide in her twenties.
This book goes missing and a scholar who loves books
is commissioned by a high ranking government official
to find it. However, as he goes on his search for it
he discovers secrets that leave him having to choose
between following his passion for reading, or saving
lives. What will his choice be in the end?
The cast includes Han Joo Wan,
Min Jia, Jung Eun Woo, Ahn
Nae Sang, and Choi Dae Chul. Good show!
