~~~~~~~~~~~
It's been many years since Dalja's Spring (2007) premiered but I highly recommend it if you haven't watched it yet IF you can chase it down online. I originally watched it in 2009 and then re-watched it two more times after that. Now retired from acting lead actress Chae Rim (All About Eve, We Are Dating Now, Oh My Lady) was such a gifted and very pretty actress. I wish she hadn't retired for marriage and children. Her comedic timing was perfect in this drama, but then she can have you crying with her in the next scene.
Actor Lee Min Ki was excellent in one of his first roles, as well as actress Lee Hye Young and actor Kong Hyung Jin in support roles. Actually there are so many good actors and actresses in this drama that its 22 episodes fly by. It's one of the very best Korean romantic comedies I've watched. Also, seeing Kim Jae Wook in a few scenes was a special treat since he's always amazing too. I liked this so much I could've watched another 10 episodes, easily. My compliments to writer, Kang Eun Kyung (Glass Slippers, Hotelier, Gu Family Book, Baker King Kim Tak Goo) for another superb script. She really knows how to make her characters seem like actual people you could meet in your own life. The only parts of this drama that made me uncomfortable were a few bed scenes. Although there was no nudity I would prefer not to see them. An embrace scene can be just as passionate and beautiful without taking place in a bed!
The Story:
Oh Dalja (Chae Rim) is a 33-year old single lady who works as an exec and host at a home shopping TV show and she cannot decide whether she should remain single or get married before she gets too much older and can't have children. She meets a handsome man named Kang Tae Bong (Lee Min Ki) who is six years younger than she is and who works as a professional date for women. He really wants to get out of this business but he finds himself falling in love with Dalja when she hires him as her date for an event. He had planned this to be his last date but finds himself too attracted to her to break away.
Dalja has an ex-boyfriend named Uhm Ki Joong (Lee Hyun Woo, Sad Love Story) who has not recovered from their relationship and who isn't thrilled she seems to be dating someone new. He tries to insert himself back into her life but could he really be too much of a free spirit to commit to Dalja? He also has a woman in love with him named Wi Sun Joo (Lee Hye Young) and she isn't thrilled when she realizes he is still in love with pretty Dalja.
And so we have a fun romantic quadrangle to watch for twenty-two episodes full of laughter and fun. Will Dalja end up with her old boyfriend or her new one? There are some serious moments, of course, but most of the drama is amusing. Enjoy it, if you can find it! It's often hard to track down the old classics, which is very sad to me. Sometimes the older dramas are the best!
