Starring handsome actor Byeon Woo Seok (Moonshine, Record Of Youth, Search:WWW, Live Up To Your Name, Scarlet Heart Ryeo, Dear My Friends) and pretty Kim Hye Yoon (Snowdrop, Tunnel, Goblin, Pride And Prejudice, 2022 film remake of Ditto) Lovely Runner (2024) was based on a web novel named “The Best of Tomorrow” by Kim Bang and it was directed by Kim Tae Yeop and Yoon Jong Ho. It tells the time traveling tale of a fan-girl of a K-pop star who goes back in time to meet him when they were both teenagers and before he was famous, in the hope of preventing him from experiencing a personal tragedy.
I didn't think there was very much original about this story. I've seen several time traveling themed Korean dramas which I feel were better than this one, but I still enjoyed it. I think the younger age you are the more you will enjoy this story, and if you are a newbie to Korean dramas you will probably also enjoy it very much. I think the acting was very good, the lead couple's chemistry was excellent, and the OST was pretty. To see if you'll like it you can check out this Korean drama streaming on Viki.com at THIS LINK.
The Story:
Attractive Ryu Seon Jae (Byeon Woo Seok) is a top K-pop star in his twenties, involved in a musical group called Eclipse, and he was also a former competitive athlete. For the past decade he has been in the entertainment spotlight nationwide. His life seems perfect on the outside, however a busy life in the entertainment industry has completely worn him out and he has bouts of depression and loneliness.
Meanwhile, a fan-girl Lim Sol (Kim Hye Yoon) loves Ryu Seon Jae from a distance. When she was younger she had had a bad accident that left her handicapped, and during her recovery period she had found solace in listening to Ryu Seon Jae's songs on the radio.
One day Lim Sol hears heart-breaking news that Ryu Seon Jae has committed suicide. She feels deep grief over this tragic event. Miraculously and mysteriously, using a magical fan watch, Lim Sol manages to travel back in time fifteen years into the past. As a teenager she meets Ryu Seon Jae who is also a high school student, and she struggles to become close to him in order to prevent his tragic death from happening in the future.
Sol creatively makes it her mission to change his sad future - and to maybe find love with him along the way. Will her efforts prove successful – or could they have unexpected consequences that will put them both at risk of future tragedy? Would their devotion to each other help them survive any tragedy?
There are sad moments in this drama but also some comedy as well, otherwise I think someone could become quite depressed watching this Korean drama! There are some typical villains you'll love to hate who come between our main couple, as well as some supportive characters whom you will love who grow to understand what they are going through emotionally. There are some twists and turns that you might be surprised by, but also some familiarity in plot developments that could be comforting to you. Check it out for yourself and make up your own mind.
