~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Moving (2024) is a Science Fiction South Korean drama that deftly intertwines action, supernatural elements, and heartfelt melodrama to create a compelling narrative. Based on a popular web-toon by Kang Full, the show captures the essence of its source material while introducing fresh elements that keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
Main ensemble actors are veteran Ryu Seung Ryong (The Good Bad Mother, Jirisan, IRIS, Personal Taste, Painter Of The Wind), handsome as ever Jo In Sung (It's Okay That's Love, That Winter The Wind Blows, Dear My Friends, Shoot For The Star, Piano, and Jill's number one favorite Korean film The Classic), and the always lovely Han Hyo Joo (Spring Waltz, Shining Inheritance, Dong Yi, W: Two Worlds Apart, favorite films Postman To Heaven, Always, Golden Slumber, Love Lies, and Love 911).
Another familiar actor in it is Cha Tae Hyun, who is always great at comic relief and is most famous for being the romantic lead in the worldwide blockbuster hit film My Sassy Girl with Gianna Jun. He provides a memorable performance as a former agent with electric powers, who becomes an unexpected ally to the younger generation. His character adds both humor and depth to the story, serving as a bridge between the older and younger characters.This drama was impressively directed by Park In Je.
The Story:
We meet three high school students in Seoul — Kim Bong Seok (Lee Jung Ha), Jang Hee Soo (Go Youn Jung), and Lee Gang Hoon (Kim Do Hoon) — each with unique superpowers. Bong Seok can fly, Hee Soo has quick healing abilities, and Gang Hoon possesses superhuman strength. Their lives take a dramatic turn as they discover the dangerous world they are part of, one where their powers make them targets of powerful evil forces.
As the story progresses the drama delves into the pasts of the parents, Kim Doo Sik (Jo In Sung) and Lee Mi Hyun (Han Hyo Joo), who were part of a covert government operation. The inter-generational narrative adds depth to the science fiction plot, highlighting the struggles and sacrifices of the parents and their children. The drama excels in the development of these family characters: how the parents bend over backwards to protect their special gifted children, and how the children cope with trying to understand their parents' motivations in protecting them from the cruel outside world. Themes of family, loyalty, and sacrifice are explored deeply, making the characters' struggles very touching.
The drama boasts well-choreographed, thrilling action scenes. The use of superpowers in combat is imaginative and keeps viewers engrossed in the story. The cinematography beautifully captures the contrast between the mundane world and the characters' extraordinary lives. While the plot is complex, and some viewers might have troubles understanding the flow of the narrative, especially if they haven't read the web-toon, the story is clearer the further along you go in watching it.
The drama has been widely praised by critics and audiences for its innovative blend of action, supernatural elements, and emotional storytelling. The drama quickly gained a substantial following in South Korea, and internationally, thanks to its gripping narrative and high production values. Viewers have particularly lauded the show’s ability to balance intense action sequences with touching character-driven moments. Actor Ryu Seung Ryong plays Jang Joo Won, a central character, and delivers a powerful performance, as a father with a mysterious past and incredible regenerative abilities.
