The drama depicts the King's
deep affection for this court lady, and the court lady's
struggle between her royal duties and her conflicting
emotions. The title refers to the red-sleeved cuffs worn
by court ladies of the time, symbolizing their status and
loyalty. Prince Yi San had resolved to become a benevolent
monarch who will reform the laws of the land for the
better when he eventually takes the throne. He falls in
love with Sung Deok Im and after some serious decision
making on her part this court lady agrees to become his
concubine. There is a lot of joy in their relationship but
also some sadness in their futures.
The drama is based on a novel of the same name by Kang Mi
Kang, had a derivative screenplay by Jung Hae Ri, and was
directed by Jung Ji In.
The Red
Sleeve historical Korean drama is one of the
best I have ever watched; it is my top favorite. The
story is about this King's true love for this woman
and is actually based on his real-life experiences. It
is a masterpiece. Actor Lee Jun Ho received a top
acting award for his interpretation of the Prince /
King, and the drama became the Drama of the Year for
2021, with ratings reaching 17.4%.
After watching it, I
watched another version of the same story, "Lee San,
Wind of the Palace" with actors Lee Seo Jin and Han Ji
Min in the title roles. That was good too. Everyone
should check it out; they will love it. That certainly
was an interesting family! Yi San was the famous
Dong Yi's grandson.
The Red Sleeve
gained international popularity, particularly on streaming
platforms, where it received high viewer ratings and
positive reviews. It became a hit in several countries,
especially in Southeast Asia and North America, where fans
praised the captivating story and stellar performances.
